Privacy Policy

YOUR INFORMATION & YOUR CHOICES

How we handle your information

This policy explains the information we collect, how we use it and how to contact us about your privacy.

Last updated: 21 September 2026

1. Who we are

RJG Trading Limited is the controller responsible for the personal information described in this notice and trades as JamesMobiles. Our address is Money Traders Building, 22–26 Dickson Road, Blackpool, Lancashire, FY1 2AE. Email: support@jamesmobiles.com.

2. Information we collect

We may collect your name, address, contact details, device model, storage (for phones), case size and connectivity (for Apple Watch), identifiers such as IMEI or serial number, condition and inspection results, trade-in reference, quoted and final prices, bank details needed for payment and charity choice. Website information may include IP address, browser and device type, pages visited and cookie information. We receive information from you, from your use of our website and from inspection of your device. Relevant payment, delivery or device-check results may also be supplied by our service providers. Required contact and payment details are needed to complete a trade-in and pay you; without them we may be unable to provide the service. Fields marked optional can be left blank. Never send us online-banking passwords, PINs or security codes.

3. How we use information

We use information to provide valuations, process and test devices, contact you, make payments, send revised offers, arrange returns, support customers, handle complaints, prevent fraud, check device ownership and maintain business and accounting records.

4. Legal bases

Contract: we use your contact, device, trade-in and payment details to provide a quotation at your request, carry out your trade-in, communicate offers and inspection results, arrange payment and handle returns.

Legal obligation: we use relevant records to meet accounting, tax and other applicable legal requirements and to respond to legally binding requests.

Legitimate interests: we use relevant information to prevent fraud, investigate ownership concerns, keep our service secure, answer general enquiries and manage complaints or legal claims. These interests must be balanced against your rights and freedoms.

Consent: we rely on your consent for newsletter subscriptions and for cookies or similar technologies where consent is required. You can withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.

5. Device and security checks

We may use device identifiers to check for lost, stolen, blacklisted or restricted devices and ownership or fraud concerns. Where appropriate and permitted by law, relevant information may be shared with law enforcement, networks, insurers, finance providers, fraud-prevention services, previous owners or organisations claiming ownership.

6. Information on your device

Back up your information, remove accounts and activation locks, and erase your device before sending. Remove SIM or memory cards from phones. For Apple Watch, follow our preparation guide to unpair it and remove Activation Lock. Do not rely on JamesMobiles as a backup service. Data may be erased during processing.

7. Service providers

We use Shopify and Tern to operate the website and trade-in service. Information may also be shared as necessary with payment and banking providers, delivery providers, IT and hosting services, professional advisers and fraud-prevention or device-checking services. We may disclose relevant information to authorities where appropriate.

8. International transfers

Shopify and other service providers may process personal information outside the UK. Shopify’s hosting region for our store is the European Union; this does not mean all processing or support takes place there. UK data-protection law requires an applicable transfer mechanism for restricted transfers, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards, together with any further protections required. Shopify explains its international processing and safeguards in its Consumer Privacy Policy. Contact support@jamesmobiles.com to request details of the safeguards relevant to your information or how to obtain a copy.

9. Retention and security

We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for its purpose, including legal, accounting, tax and fraud-prevention requirements. Reasonable technical and organisational security measures will be used.

10. Marketing and cookies

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we use your email address to send JamesMobiles news and updates. You can unsubscribe using the link in our marketing emails or contact us. Service messages about an existing trade-in are separate from marketing.

Our UK cookie banner lets you accept, decline or manage optional cookie categories. Necessary cookies support essential website functions. Optional categories include analytics, personalisation and marketing. Where consent is required, you can refuse optional cookies. You can revisit your choice using the cookie controls when available, or clear this site’s cookies in your browser to see the banner again; clearing cookies may also remove saved preferences.

Shopify Network Intelligence is enabled. Shopify uses customer data from our store together with data from other Shopify merchants to provide enhanced services, including service improvements, security, advertising and personalisation. For these enhanced services Shopify is responsible for its own processing. Its Consumer Privacy Policy explains the information it uses, its legal bases and your choices. Shopify states that, when a visitor refuses non-essential tracking through its banner, that visitor’s device data from the site is marked so it is not used by Network Intelligence for non-essential purposes. Your cookie choices do not prevent processing needed to operate the service or meet legal obligations.

11. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can request access to your information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, restriction of processing or a portable copy of information you provided.

Your right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your situation. You can object to direct marketing at any time.

Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Use the unsubscribe link for marketing, the cookie controls for cookie choices, or email support@jamesmobiles.com. Rights are subject to applicable conditions and exemptions; for example, some records may need to be kept to meet legal obligations. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify your identity.

12. Questions and complaints

Contact support@jamesmobiles.com with privacy enquiries, requests or complaints. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
